Tips for Eloping in Rhode Island

Rhode Island is a beautiful state in New England and perfect for anyone who wants breathtaking ocean views for their elopement. It has over 400 miles of coastline and 15 state parks, offering so many incredible places to elope. If you dream of hearing waves crashing and smelling the ocean water while you say your vows, you have a Rhode Island elopement!

How to Plan a Rhode Island Elopement

It is pretty simple to elope in Rhode Island. Here are steps you can follow:

  1. Find an elopement photographer you connect with and can help you plan your day. You can set up a FREE call with me to see how I can be a part of your day!

  2. I will provide a customized location list if you are not sure where you want to elope, personalized vendor recommendations, activity ideas, custom-made timelines, and any other details you need to make your Maine elopement incredible!

  3. Apply for a Rhode Island marriage license up to 90 days before your Rhode Island elopement. If you live in Rhode Island, you and your partner should apply for a marriage license at a City or Town Clerk where you live. If you do not live in Rhode Island, you need to go to the City or Town Clerk where your ceremony will take place. Either way, you will need identification documents and payment for the fee to get your marriage license. Rhode Island does not have a waiting period, so you can get married as soon as you get it!

  4. Apply for any permits you need for your location. Don’t worry! We can help you figure that out, too!

  5. When your elopement day arrives, I will be by your side to capture every special moment!

  6. Celebrate eloping in Rhode Island and marrying your soulmate!!!

Best Seasons to Have a Rhode Island Elopement

  • Spring is a beautiful time to elope in Rhode Island! Once the snow melts, everything begins to bloom, and the warm weather moves in, so you can’t go wrong with having a spring elopement!

    • Tips for planning a spring elopement: Winter in Rhode Island can linger into April, so I always recommend checking the weather and packing layers.

  • Summer is one of the most popular seasons to visit Rhode Island, for good reasons! The summer weather in Rhode Island is gorgeous, with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures, making it the perfect time to elope by the ocean!

    • Tips for planning a summer elopement: Because summer is a popular time to visit Rhode Island, I highly recommend planning your Rhode Island elopement during sunrise or sunset to avoid most crowds.

  • Fall is a beautiful time to elope in Rhode Island, like every other state in New England, because there is colorful foliage everywhere you look! If you are looking to elope on a beach in Rhode Island, fall is also a great time because the beaches will be less crowded.

    • Tips for planning a fall elopement: Although Rhode Island is not the busiest New England state in the fall, it still draws many leaf peepers. As always, we recommend planning your elopement for sunrise or sunset to avoid most crowds.

  • Winter in Rhode Island is one of the most underrated times to elope. Although it may not have the snowy mountains or ski resorts New Hampshire, Vermont, and Maine have, it still offers a beautiful winter wonderland. Winter is one of the least visited seasons for Rhode Island, so you can have a beautiful winter elopement without the crowds.

    • Tips for planning a winter elopement: Winters in Rhode Island are cold, so I always recommend packing layers. Thick shawls or faux fur jackets are perfect additions to your wedding dress to keep you warm and still look beautiful in photos!

Block Island is a stunning island off the  Rhode Island coast that offers beautiful beaches, dramatic cliffs, stunning conservation land, and historic lighthouses. It is one of the most beautiful places in Rhode Island because it has diverse locations that make perfect places to say your vows! One of my favorite places on Block Island is Mohegan Bluffs because it has stunning cliffs and a beach at the bottom.

And the best part? It only requires a quick one-hour ferry ride from Rhode Island!

Newport

One of the most beautiful places in Rhode Island is Newport. It is one of those most popular places to visit because of its incredible cliffs, beaches, and lighthouses. You can spend the elopement day walking the iconic Cliff Walk, exploring Fort Adams State Park, or watching the sunset on one of Newport's many beaches.
