Sam and Michael | Iceland Elopement

Sam and Michael reached out and asked if I would be available to photograph their elopement in Iceland. My response was a humongous YES!!! Iceland is a must go travel destination at some point in your life, and Sam and Michael were making it even more magical by eloping there! We spent a few months planning exactly how we wanted their Iceland elopement day to flow. And I think we built the most perfect timeline for the most perfect day. Here’s how it went!

Sam and Michael | Iceland Elopement Day

We started in the early afternoon taking portraits at Fjaðrárgljúfur. Fjaðrárgljúfur is an epic and deep canyon in South Iceland, and it has a trail running along the side of the cliff as you slowly get higher on the ridge. It was a perfect place to begin their Iceland elopement day as we were going to slowly work our way back further north after.

Our second stop in Iceland was at Reynisfjara, a beautiful black sand beach right outside of the city Vik. Reynisfjara includes not only a black sand beach, but beautifully sculpted salt columns jetting off the side of a cliff. Reynisfjara was the perfect location for Sam and Michael to read their vows and have their elopement ceremony. We found a quiet place amongst some tall grass where you could see the waves reaching up onto the beach.

We then made our way a little further North in Iceland to Kvernufoss and Skogafoss, two incredible waterfalls you can walk right up to. Both Kvernufoss and Skogafoss run off the side of a large mountain, and the scale of them makes them beautiful to use as a backdrop in photos. You may however get a little wet from the heavy mist haha, but that makes it fun!

Last but not least, we ended their Iceland elopement by Dyrhólaey Lighthouse, which sits on top of a hill overlooking the ocean. From the top of Dyrhólaey Lighthouse you can also see the distant mountains and glaciers of inland Iceland. This was an amazing location to end Sam and Michael’s elopement in Iceland.
