Best Seasons to Elope in New Hampshire
Fall is one of the most beautiful times to visit New Hampshire when the vibrant fall foliage takes over the mountainsides and makes everything look like a painting. The weather is beautiful, with crisp temperatures and low humidity. And the best part about eloping in New Hampshire in the fall? You don’t need to hike to get beautiful fall foliage views. The beautiful fall foliage brings a lot of tourism to New Hampshire, especially on weekends, so I recommend choosing a weekday if you can and eloping for sunrise or sunset.
Winter is an underrated season to elope! New Hampshire has some of the best ski resorts in New England and offers hundreds of snowshoeing trails, and its snow-capped mountains are stunning in New Hampshire. If you don’t want to hike or ski in the winter, there are plenty of other things to do and be cozy. Winters in New Hampshire are very cold and snowy, and I always recommend packing layers. Perfect additions to a wedding dress are thick shawls or faux fur jackets. Both will look beautiful in photos and help keep you warm!
Spring in New Hampshire is beyond beautiful when everything begins to bloom. If you are looking to elope near a waterfall, spring is the perfect season because the waterfalls are gushing after the recent snowmelt. Snow lingers in the White Mountains, and the trails can also be very muddy when the snow begins to melt, so I recommend keeping that in mind if you want to hike for your elopement.
Summer in New Hampshire is beautiful when the warm weather moves in and the days are longer. It has endless opportunities and places to elope, including renting a boat, watching the sunset on the beach, or hiking the day away. Similar to fall, summer is a popular time to visit New Hampshire, so I recommend planning your elopement during sunrise or sunset.
Best Places to Elope in New Hampshire
Franconia Notch State Park
I am starting with one of our favorite locations in New Hampshire! Franconia Notch State Park has so much to offer because it is one of the most diverse parks in the state. You can hike, swim, rock climb, ice climb, see waterfalls, and take a scenic gondola!
You can elope on the infamous Franconia Ridge if you are up for a strenuous hike. If you are looking for a short and sweet hike, you can elope on the beautiful Artist Bluff. If hiking isn’t your thing, Franconia Notch has many beautiful overlooks you can say your vows at. If skiing is your thing, you can ski and elope on Cannon Mountain’s slopes.
Kancamagus Highway
The Kancamagus Highway is the famous 34-mile scenic byway that weaves through the beautiful White Mountains. It offers breathtaking mountain views, fun hikes, and beautiful waterfalls along the drive, making it one of the best places to elope!
If you don’t want to hike but still have mountain views, there are several overlooks that make incredible places to elope. If you want to hike, there are endless amounts of trails. Mount Chocorua requires a strenuous hike but has some of the most beautiful views in the White Mountains. Sabbaday Falls is the perfect place to elope for those who want to be next to a waterfall and do not want to hike a strenuous trail.
North Conway
North Conway is a beautiful mountain town located in the White Mountains and is known for being one of the top ski towns in New England. Not only is it a great ski town, but it also has incredible nearby trails, waterfalls, swimming holes, and a scenic train.
One of the best places to elope in North Conway is Cathedral Ledge. The beautiful ledge offers incredible views of the surrounding mountains and is easily accessible by driving. For those who would rather hike, there are multiple trails leading to Cathedral Ledge. And of course, if you wanted to elope on the ski slopes, North Conway is home to incredible ski resorts.
Mount Washington
Are you looking to elope on the tallest mountain in the Northeast?! Mount Washington stands at 6,288 feet tall, offering incredible views from its summit, and on clear days you can see into five states - New Hampshire, New York, Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine. It’s pretty incredible!
Mount Washington is one of the best places to elope because its summit is accessible by driving the auto road, riding the Cog Railway, or hiking. The Mount Washington Auto Road is a beautiful 7.6-mile scenic drive that offers incredible overlooks on the way to Mount Washington’s summit. If you would rather hike, there are a variety of trails leading to the summit that are strenuous. The only downside to Mount Washington is it has very unpredictable weather. If you can catch it on a clear day, it will be one of the most beautiful and best spots to elope in New Hampshire.
Portsmouth
New Hampshire has a stunning coast that offers some of the best places to elope in New Hampshire. Portsmouth is one of my favorite areas because of its beautiful beaches and parks. It is the perfect place to elope for those who love the ocean.
Odiorne Point State Park is a beautiful location along the water that offers hiking trails and ocean views. There are also so many other beaches nearby that are just as beautiful, including Rye Beach, Hampton Beach, and Seabrook Beach.
